Religious Spotlight: Unitarian Universalists
Unitarian Universalism is one of the least religious religions that exists. Founded in 1961 after the merging of two protestant denominations, the Unitarians and the Universalists, their namesake is more historical than descriptive. Unitarians originally rejected the doctrin of the trinity, and Universalists believed that God would save everyone, and no one would suffer in hell.
Today, the Unitarian Universalists explicitly have no set of beliefs, and state in their pamphlet: "We believe that personal experience, conscience and reason should be the final authorities in religion, and that in the end religious authority lies not in a book or person or institution, but in ourselves. We are a "non-creedal" religion: we do not ask anyone to subscribe to a creed."
According to Univtairan Universalist members in a 2001 survey, a plurality of members were self-describe as what?
A. Christian
B. Earth-centered
C. Humanist
