Religious Spotlight: The Jehovah's Witnesses
The Jehovah's Witnesses were founded in 1879 by a Pennsylvania businessman, Charles Taze Russell. Well-known for their distribution of an evangelical text called "The Watchtower", Jehovah's Witnesses espouse unique beliefs compared to their catholic and protestant counterparts. For example, as a Jehovah's Witness, divorce is only permissible in cases of adultery, blood transfusions are strictly prohibited, there is no celebration of secular holidays such as birthdays, and no use of religious images such as a crosses is allowed.
Interestingly, Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe in Hell - in fact, they simply believe that an unsaved soul is completely annihilated after death. What's more, one of their defining beliefs is that what is predicted in Revelation as part of the end-times prophesy has already started. According to their religion, Jesus has already thrown Satan out of heave and down to earth, which is why the world has been getting progressively worse over time.
