Jainism is an old, ascetic, Indian religion that dates back to between the 9th and 6th centuries BCE. Its main tenets include the principles of non-violence to all living things and a complete abstinence from any form of self-indulgence. These principles are so important that adherent Jains must remain strict vegetarians and cannot even eat certain vegetation because of strict rules about life. Practicing Jains can only eat which of the following vegetation:
